"Whenever you play the game of thrones, you either win or die"
As the awesome season came to a close with the wicked, but jammed pack finale I couldn't help but realize that my predictions were pretty much all wrong.
In the gripping season finale quiet a few loose ends are tied up, and we will start with what happened after the battle of Blackwater. We find out that the Lannisters have defeated Stannis Baratheon, when Tywin Lannister, Jofferys grandfather, assisted by the Tyrells came in and devastated Stannis's fleet. Tywin is praised for his help, becoming Savior of the City, while poor Tyrion was stripped of any honors he had and the position being Hand of the King. Trion also finds out that the attacked he suffered from and has a scar on his face from was caused by a hit man his sister sent for him. Then on the other spectrum of the fight we see Stannis back at his castle with Melisandre where he goes through the motions of losing the battle and feels remorseful for the murder of his brother Renly.
So my prediction that Stannis will gain power was a bust.
Then in the North Winterfell is still under control of the Greyjoys but has an army of Northmen banging on the doors. So Theon tries to motivate his army to go down swinging but he is killed by his own men, then we do not see Winterfell for a while until Osha, Hordor, Reckon and Bran emerged from the burning wreckage of whats left of Winterfell and they run to the North. But for the other Starks not much happened, Robb married his woman (They were married in the eyes of the New Gods instead of the Old which was weird!), and pisses off his poor mother who is not very happy about the marriage, but not as angry as the the girl that he was promised too!
This disproved my predictions that Bran will try to help, and that Rob will defeat the Lannisters.
We also learned about what was happening with the other Stark children, we'll start with Sansa. Poor Sansa is at the ceremony where they honor the people who helped saved the city, it goes normal until Lady Margaery Tyrell, the widow of the late Lord Renly Baratheon, she offers she hand in marriage to King Joffery! I did not see this coming at all, I guess they did foreshadow it earlier in the season when she wanted to be the Queen that's why she married Renly in the first place, but she says that she is still 'pure' and loves Jofferey deeply. At first he is not considering the offer because he is already betrothed to Lady Sansa, but then after persuasion from his mother and the court he takes her offer and dumps Sansa. And Sansa is immediately filled with joy because she thinks she is free and even cracks a smile for the first time this season, until Little Finger says that he wants to marry her and she basically doesn't have a choice. This poor girl probably has one of the worst lives in all of Westeros, and that says a lot because it can be pretty bad for a lot of people! Then there is Arya who has successfully escaped from Harrenhal with her two friends, when Jaquen, the assassin and friend of Arya shows up and offers her to come to Braavos and be trained to be an assassin, but she turns down the offer because she still wants to see her family! But he gives her a coin and says if she ever needs him just to give it to any man from Braavos and say the words "Valar Morghulis". Precious friendship! Then finally John snow is still up past the Wall in the captivity of the Wildlings, when the other man from the Night's Watch tries to fight him, he fights back and wins. Impressing the Wildlings so much that now they are going to let him meet the King.
So Arya wasn't attacked which made me happy, and Jon has become closer to Ygritte because she gave him the sword that he won the battle which, because she was helping him out. But what happened with Sansa and Margaery blindsided me!
Last but not least we have Daenarys Targaryen. Last time we saw her see was at he weakest because she was being help captive in Quarth and her dragons were kidnapped, but this episode she turned everything around! She starts by going to the House of the Undying where here dragons are being held. She goes with her closes friend Ser Jorah, but she is the only one let in, by the secret door. So Daenarys walks around the tombs roaring at the warlock who kidnapped then Pyat Pree, then she finds her self in a room with many doors and can hear her dragons crying for her so she opens and door to try to find them. Behind the doors she sees many things that the warlock did to try to keep her from finding her dragons, she sees the Iron Throne, the land beyond the wall and even sees her dead husband and still born child alive to try to keep her from getting her dragons. But none of these things work because she realizes its all a charade and finally finds her dragons chained in a room. When she tries to free them Pyat Pree puts chains on her, saying that she will also be his captive because his magic is stronger with her and her dragons. She wasn't chained for long because she orders her dragons to breath fire and they do and burn Pyat Pree alive and the chains disintegrate because his magic died with him. Once she and her dragons are free Daenarys and her people go to get their revenge on Xaro (the King of Quarth and he also helped steal her dragons and kill many of her people). She finds him in bed with one of her old servant's, whom she thought was dead, and she tells Xaro he must open his vault to give her some gold, so she can buy a ship. But when they open the vault it is empty and as punishment for his lies and her old servant she locks them away in it and takes the key. Finally Daenarys, Jonah and her people collect enough gold from around his castle to buy a ship!
So my prediction was kind of right, because she did get her dragons and is going to bail out of the city. The reality was just more exciting and vengeful!
Finally the show left us with a cliff hanger ending which I did not see coming! Beyond the Wall Jon's friends Sam, Edd and Grenn are looking around for Jon when they hear the Night's Watches horn call. At first they think it is nothing special until they hear it blow 3 times which means White Walkers. White Walkers are legendary monsters that the Night Watch and Wall were created to stop. So the boys run back to the wall, but poor Sam is not inn the best of shape so he quickly loses track of the other two and hides behind a large rock. While crouching down Sam sees hundreds of Wights (the undead warriors raised by White Walkers) walking towards the wall, some appear to be Wildlings, Night's Watchmen's, and even some appears as old as the First Men who came to Westeros. But the most striking thing we saw was a White Walker on an undead horse who looks directly at Sam before roaring and the screen fades to black!
